Strange dilemma

I just keep thinking about this theme… ever since I left Vegas. It is even starting to frustrate me. I keep thinking about the influence time has in playing a slot machine… meaning that the result of a game will be identical if you play now or just wait 5 minutes and then plays. It the slot machine uses the time as some variable the result will be different, but still….

Even if someone claims time does have an effect, it will be impossible to prove.

San Diego

I have arrived in the Gaslight district of San Diego. I’m staying in a little hostel where some great music is sounding in the halls.

Of course I had trouble finding the place and I ended up at some weird national park. It was the weirdest national park I have ever seen…. the place where the first European sailors set foot on the continent, but the coastline near Noordwijk/Wassenaar/Scheveningen is more interesting.

Joshua Tree

Today I visited the Joshua Tree national park. I didn’t have any idea on what to expect, and I thought it would be just one single big special tree just like on the cover of the leaflet I had.

I was all wrong. The park is absolutely filled with trees, a kind of which I have a very small version at home, which used to live in my parents garden and long before that in the garden of some stranger.

It was a really nice park and the only bad thing was that I could hardly get out of the car. It was so very hot it was unreal.

Update: After a little break I went to the same park again, but this time in the evening. I was the only tourist there and it was a great sensation driving around with loud Russian musical beats. (Tatu, the kamp-cd)

When the temperature is not deadly and can be supported Joshua Tree is a very beautiful park.

Sin City

I really liked my visit to Las Vegas and I’m sad to leave the city but I must continue my trip. Outside it was always so hot but even in the heat there was always a lot of entertainment. There were lights everywhere (especially at night), the lantern poles were outfitted with little humidifiers that sprayed perfumed water into the air that causes a very nice refreshing sensation, everywhere there was music being played and there were a lot of really nice free shows to enjoy.

Inside the casinos it was always nice and cool. The gambling machines produce sound and lights that just somehow make you happy and the enormous amount of machines just make you want to play. There are people everywhere spending their money on the machines. In addition to the slot machines and gambling tables there is however much more to be experienced.

In one casino they had recreated a part of Venice, complete with rivers and little gondoliers that transported the guests through the casino. Another casino was inspired by Paris with a huge Eiffel-tower outside that continued on the inside of the casino which resembles a big French square, with the only difference being a thick carpet everywhere and of course all the gambling machines.

German au-pairs

I have re-evaluated my opinion about Germans and radically changed my mind. All because of two German au-pairs who work in New York but were now celebrating their holidays in Sin City and in Los Angeles.

One of the au-pairs was in charge of an 11 year old boy and his 17 year old brother. This must be a very difficult situation controlling his hormones for the poor 17 year old boy.

Oxygen (O2)

Yesterday I visited by first oxygen bar. For a mere $12 they supplied you with 15 minutes of oxygen. It was a strange experience. A little tube under your nose and four columns with colored liquid that adds an aroma to the oxygen that flows through it. Meanwhile you got massaged by all kinds of strange things. A strange spider like thing that they moved over the skin of your head and many strange apparatus to massage your back.

The enriched oxygen did seem to have an effect… When I left the oxygen bar I noticed my senses were a bit clearer and sharper than normal for about one minute. After this single minute the effect was gone.

Before leaving the oxygen bar I did buy a lucent dreams nose inhaler. It was an inhaler with a typical smell, that should cause dreams to become more lucent. The only thing I noticed was that when I wake up the next day I was unaware of any dream…. but I was also still wearing my clothes and had my contacts in my eyes.

Conclusion… the sleep effect works, but the dreams still need to arrive.

U-Turn

Today I visited the old Vegas. While driving there I needed to make a u-turn, and that is something that not allowed in America. The person sitting next to me in the car was totally amazed and even more because a cop was watching the event take place. Well, I did not get a fine and wasn’t even pulled over.

Shows

Yesterday I was playing poker for more than an hour. I didn’t lose a lot of money, because you could play for just 1 cent a game. Afterwards I went to see some of the free shows, which were pretty nice to see. Today I plan to see some more of these shows and maybe visits some park in the neighborhood.

Vegas!!!

Vegas is cool!!!! I remember that when we went skiing last year (or the year before) and Mark (v.) and I could drink quite a lot of Margaritas. Here is Vegas it is a different story. I bought a Margarita because you got a nice Vegas souvenir glass (plastic) with it but it proved to be nearly 2 liters of Margarita, and they did not mind to add plenty of alcohol. Right now I’m pretty wasted, because since I’m in the USA I lost my tolerance for high levels of alcohol. Still, I do have the nice glass, so the next cocktail night I’ll be the man!

In Las Vegas it is very very hot. Every time I get out of the car, or I leave an air conditioned casino it is like you are hit in the face hard by a hot towel. 100+ Degrees Fahrenheit seems to be normal here. Argh!
