It used to be quite normal. A son would follow in the footsteps of his father. ‘Like father like son’, they said. In modern times this is no longer the case. Sons can develop how they like and sometimes it is even ‘Like mother like son’.

Dutch genes

If it ain’t Dutch, It ain’t much.
Being Dutch is something that’s in your genes. A way of being and of self consciousness that cannot be changed. Being Dutch means you are conscious of your future and you truly feel the master of your own destiny.
The Dutch are proud of their history and their culture but choose to look forwards. We have faith in the future and faith in our selves. We see changes and grab hold of them with both hands. Alex embraces his roots because he can already see that being Dutch means he is privileged.
Berg chronicle
Thanks to my aunt Corry our family has documented almost 10 years of its family history. Each year family members were asked to write down the memorable events they find important from the last year and all the results were combined into a nice small document. Literally history in the making. In its current form the chronicle from 2013 will be the last one and we’ll have to see if the idea is picked up by some other family member. The Berg family is growing fast so each year the chronicle is getting bigger and implies more work to make it.
I like to keep things a little easier. A few times a month I post items about my own personal history here on this blog. Recently this includes stories about my wife and son and on few occasions even about close relatives like my father, mother, brother, sister-in-law, niece and godson. I’ve been blogging for nearly 10 years so you can find a nice piece of history here as well, but much more centered around one person and therefor surely less interesting for the average person.
Career
If Alex’ theater career doesn’t go as planned he has nothing to worry about. He can get a job as a race car driver in no time. Alex has a need for speed!
Shaky legs
Tribute to Alex! He was super nervous, but he has done a fantastic job.
Alex’ second album
After the first sheep crosses the dam more are bound to follow. The same holds true for (digital) photo albums. This is Alex’ second album covering the events from his first birthday till his second birthday.
This post used to have the online version of the photo album, but is is no longer available… sorry.
Alex’ first album
Better late than never. Alex finally has an album with photos from his birth to his first birthday. The album was easily made using software from the hema. In addition to a nice printed version they even prepared a free online version.
This post used to have the online version of the photo album, but is is no longer available… sorry.
Sint and piet
It is still about a month before the birthday of the sint will be celebrated, but still I have the feeling I was just in time. Just in time buying a play-mobile set with a white sint and a couple of black piets. Just as the tradition prescribes.

Three years!
Today there is a celebration!
We are married three years!
Takka – Alex dances
Alex clearly enjoys himself. Once he hears music his Spanish genes just take control and he can’t resist moving his body. Dancing (Takka, as Alex calls it) clearly is his favorite pass-time!
