Why are children’s songs always so sweet and unrealistic. I think it is better to just be honest and tell the truth.
We received a CD with Dutch children’s songs and some of these songs were so very sweet and childish. I could not resist myself and made an improved and more realistic version. There are probably still some problems with the rhyme but that can be fixed.
Advantages compared to the original:
The design I made for the commemorative coin resulted in a big fail. The fact that I had really though about the design did not help a bit.
In my design all the European countries were united into one big arrow. The arrow was constructed out of various smaller parts. Each little part represents one of the European countries. The side (width) of every part is calculated using the number of inhabitants of a country. The height is dependent of the value of the countries original coin from before the euro, and the starting point is related to the year the country introduced the euro.
All my calculus and drawing efforts have been in vain. To bad. If you want you can still vote for one of the selected coin designs.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the euro coin a design content has been started to get the new design of a future commemorative coin. All citizens of Europe can participate and if you present the best design of the 731 million potential participants you win a set of coins and of course some honor. You have two more weeks because the design needs to be submitted in the 20th of May.
The design needs to be related/inspired by the 10 year existence of the euro, but the number 10 cannot be used. Using the number 10 would be confusing when you need to determine the value of the coin. A 2 euro coin with a 10 on it could easily be used to rip off non Europeans, and that should of course be avoided. It’s also prohibited to use any written text on the coin.
I’m going to have a brainstorm session about this theme this weekend, and maybe I’ll try my luck with a simple design.
Las Palmas is a nice short movie that shows quite accurately how the average tourist sometimes behaves. Living in Las Palmas it is a situation that I can clearly recognise, but luckily it does not happen that often. Good to see ‘our’ island getting some attention.
This Sunday I’ll take in some culture. After my running session we’ll visit the theater and see a show by Pagagnini. A group of musicians that combine music with some kind of show, or at least this is what I think it will be.
Classic music combined with dance, theater and humor. An attractive combination.
It will also be my first visit to the Alfredo Kraus auditorium, so I’m looking forward to it!
Everybody know and everybody agrees on this topic. Calling a help desk is an absolute nightmare. In Belgium that took revenge in a beautiful way.

Geheel volgens de tradities van kerst is een belangrijk onderdeel het gezellig samenzijn en samen eten. Zo ook dit jaar, maar in plaats van het samenzijn met familie vieren we het met vrienden hier op het eiland.
Het idee is dat iedereen iets te eten maakt. Voor morgen maak ik een flink aantal lekkere sushi’s en voor de 25ste maak ik een lekkere salade want het plan is om dan te gaan BBQ-en. De salade die ik ga maken is volgens een traditioneel Noordwijkerhouts familierecept van Kees en Nel, aangepast aan Spanje. Omdat ik hiervoor nog geen recept online heb staan plaats ik deze maar nu, zodat ik voor de toekomst een referentie heb.
Ingredienten:
Stap 1: Kook een flink aantal aardappelen en kook een paar wortels. Kook ook 1 of 2 eieren hard. Laat alles afkoelen.
Stap 2: Stamp de aardappelen fijn, en snij de wortels en augurkjes in stukjes. Eventueel kan je de zilveruitjes in twee stukjes snijden.
Stap 3: Mix de aardappelen met de wortels, de augurk, de ewrten, de olijven, de uitjes de in stukjes gehakte ei, en de tonijn. Als alles is gemixt voeg je een flinke klodder mayonese toe, en mix je alles nogmaals. Nu breng je de boel op smaak met het vocht van de augurkjes en zilveruitjes. Een beetje vocht uit beide potjes, maar niet teveel, want dan wordt het een natte boel.
Stap 4: Zet het geheel een tijdje in de koeling en eet smakelijk!
De verschillen
Er zijn een aantal verschillen die ik heb doorgevoerd om de salade ook in Spanje geaccepteerd te krijgen. Niet veel, maar het zijn details. Het originele Noordwijkerhoutse recept bevat geen olijven, geen ei en geen tonijn, maar bevat in plaats hiervan een gekookte hamlap in blokjes gesneden.
De Flamboyan is een soort boom die geregeld vol zit met rode bloempjes en iets later groeien hier enorm grote bonen met de zaden. Eenmaal gedroogd worden deze bonen soms gebruikt als muziek instrument. Omdat ik bezig ben mijn horizon te verbreden was mijn nieuwe plan om een aantal van deze bonen bij elkaar te sprokkelen en deze op typisch canarische wijze te beschilderen en ze dan te verkopen op een website voor ambachtslieden.
De authentieke canariers (guanches) hebben een aantal grot schilderingen achter gelaten die voor dit doel perfect gerecycled kunnen worden. Verder kunnen we ons repertoir uitbreiden met beschilderingen van hagedissen, stranden, spaanse gehuchtjes, etc.
Vooralsnog heb ik 1 beschilderde boon in guanche stijl. Wie maakt me los!
