Hutspot

Leiden was liberated from an occupation by the Spaniards on the 3rd of October in 1574. After seeing the Spaniards flee away the people from Leiden regained their courage, looted the empty campgrounds and found a big pot of food! This food is still traditionally prepared every year around the 3rd of October to celebrate the freedom we gained when the Spaniards left with their tails between their legs!

Preparing it the easy way, for two persons.
Hutspot!Ingredients:
· 300 gram potatoes
· 250 gram carrots
· 250 gram onions
· little bit of butter
· 1/4 a cup of milk
· salt & pepper
· smoked sausage

Preparation:
Clean the potatoes, unions and carrots. Cut the potatoes, unions and carrots into small pieces, and put them in a pan with a little bit of water. Cook the chopped potatoes, unions and carrots for about 20 minutes.

Poor the water out of the pan, and smash everything up, and mix it real good. While mixing add a little bit of butter and the milk, some salt and some pepper.

Put it on a plate and add the smoked sausage (which needs to be heated in advance). Note, the sausage is the biggest contribution in flavor, so get a tasty one :-p.

Enjoy!

Corncob

Corn!Last Sunday I went to Nijmegen to run a preparation round of about 13 kilometers. This was my preparation for the 7 hill run. While I was running I noticed that there were a lot of fields with corn growing right next to the public roads. There was nothing blocking access to the corn. I could not restrain myself and I did a bad thing. Right before finishing our practice run I stole a corncob.

Yesterday evening I planned to eat by stolen corncob, but after cooking it for over 2 hours in boiling water I realized I had made a mistake. I now know I will never again steal any corn. Even with a lot of salt added the corn was not fit for consumption. I did not have any butter at home, which maybe would have helped, or maybe the corn needed to cook for three hours instead of only two, but the result remained uneatable. Next time I will stick to canned corn.

Dirkjan

Some things just cannot be explained with words alone…
Hilarious good Dirkjan! Hilarious good Dirkjan! Hilarious good Dirkjan!

In English…
image 1: SLAP!
image 2: This is not unfriendly towards women. On the contrary! It is the continuation of ancient rites which confirm the mystical bond between men and women.
image 3: Yeah sure!

The Color of Magic

Discworld! Some time ago I read my first book by the authors Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, “Good Omens”. I was so impressed by this book that subconsciously knew what was going to happen next…

A strong drive to read more that will only end when I have read all the books available by the same author. I had the same need with the books by Ronald Giphart, Dan Brown, Scott Adams, J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, and a few others.

In America I bought the book “The Color of Magic” and entered into a discussion with the sales person about the Good Omens book. Later I had a few discussions with an artist in San Fransisco about “The Color of Magic” and the possibility that there is indeed more then dark and light (or good and bad) in relation to magic… now I’m starting with my second discworld book, “The Light Fantastic”.

D. Trance 27

D-Trance 27!It was 1996.

There were just two sentences in English. Spoken with a very strong German accent. “Metamorphose is a physical and mental process able to genetically disfigure the starting structure. So as to tune your body into musical energy… this is metamorphose.”

The text did not make a lot of sense, but the strong German accent compensated for my lack of understanding. This was a song from my first (and Gary D.’s fourth) D.Trance CD.

Now, 8 years have past and the 27th D.Trance CD is being released. I’m happy because I can spend some happy times in my car driving and listening to the new beats.

Lucid Dreams scent inhaler

Lucid Dreams! In the US I had bought a scent inhaler in a bar where I spend 15 minutes sniffing up oxygen. I thought it would be a nice thing because I’m interested in dreams, but normally I don’t dream or I don’t remind what I have dreamed. Before I bought the inhaler I already enjoyed two strange dreams while I was traveling across America, so I figured that was something I would like to improve on.

Ever since I have the inhaler I sometimes sniff it before going to sleep, but until now the effect is absent. There is a different strange effect happening and that is that now sometimes I have some kind of smell flashback. It is just like I smell the inhaler even though if has a very strange smell that you normally don’t encounter.

Koyaanisqatsi

In the US I bought a DVD by Francis Ford Coppola… Koyaanisqatsi – Life Out Of Balance. The music on the DVD is by Philip Glass, and this music is quite depressing but watching the movie at the same time quickly takes you to a special emotional state. All this because some ex colleague once told me about Philip Glass.

It is almost unimaginable that a movie that only contains images and music, without any spoken text, can point out so clearly that we are working hard to destroy our planet. It is probably better to focus on the description of the DVD cover. “Koyaanisqatsi contrasts the tranquil beauty of nature with the frenzied hum of contemporary urban society.”

Oh well, I’ll just go and sit in the sun for a while. :-p

Lasciami così
Non dire una parola che
Non sia d’amore

Per la mia vita che
E’ tutto quello che ho
E’ tutto quello che io ho e non è ancora

Slowmotion 4 Me

In America on the side of New York there was one song being played on the radio every day, and sometimes even more then once.. Juvenile. But the bad thing was it was a special edited version with a lot of ‘holes’ in the lyrics. I was curious about these holes so I searched for the song on KaZaA and this resulted in a surprise. The holes in the edited version were not so bad at all.

Other nice songs I remember from America:
Gap Band – Ride the White Pony
B52’s – Love Shack
Goo Goo Dolls – Iris
