Pek’s last echo

Once again we were offered a look into our future. In one month Pek will be born and he will stop being called Pek, because at that time he deserves his new final name.

Ana will leave for Madrid next week where in a month, the 24th of August, the birth of Pek will take place. He will be born during a vasectomy in the Alcala hospital. The same city as where we got married.

Pek is kicking quite a lot every now and then. Also he gets very happy and excited after Ana has something to eat. This time we had a test where they made a graph of Pek’s movements and his heartbeat. Everything started out really relaxed, but when Ana was given a lollypop the action started.

The top line in the graph are the heartbeat or the movement of Pek. The vertical stripes are an indication of movement. Ana had a little button which she needed to press when she noted movement. Every press on the button resulted in a little vertical stripe. The bottom line is movement by Ana. This bottom line indicated that Ana had two mini contractions during the test.

The little one weighs 2046 grams and it is a small baby, but that was to be expected with such a small mother.
Childrens song
Why are children’s songs always so sweet and unrealistic. I think it is better to just be honest and tell the truth.

We received a CD with Dutch children’s songs and some of these songs were so very sweet and childish. I could not resist myself and made an improved and more realistic version. There are probably still some problems with the rhyme but that can be fixed.

Advantages compared to the original:
- Honesty about the public transport
- Added counting up to 10
- Removed ‘hakke, hakke’

Visit dad and mom

We just enjoyed a nice visit. My father and mother visited us and they were just in time to witness pregnant Ana’s with a big belly. We had nice talks about old times and new. Exchanged stories about our childhoods, watched photos from our wedding, ate, drank and played some games of Parchis.

The next time me meet there will be one more family member. What a change that will be. Hope to see you soon.

In tegenstelling tot de vorige keer hadden we dit keer wel een paar goede foto’s. Zie hier het edele gelaat van onze kleine.

Hij weegt inmiddels een goede 1100 gram en alles ziet er goed uit. Ana moet wel door gaan met het slikken van ijzer pillen, maar voor de rest verloopt de zwangerschap voorspoedig.
Suske and Wiske

It is a story that I like to tell my Spanish friends. The story on how the city where I was born, Leiden withstood and displaced a heavy siege by the Spanish occupiers. After sending the Spanish back home they left an empty encampment which contained a big pot of hutspot, a dish made with potatoes, carrots, onions and a smoked sausage.

Every year on the 3rd of October every inhabitant of Leiden celebrates and usually eats hutspot. I also try and keep this tradition in honor, even thou I moved to a different country and it is difficult to find a smoked sausage here.

The nice news is that a Suske and Wiske comic is being published. The topic is the suffering Leiden. I used to be a bog fan of the Suske and Wiske series and although I stopped reading around the comic number 200 I will for sure get this one (number 314). I wonder if Suske and Wiske will still be the same or if commercial interest have also entered the world of these comics.

The story should be placed around the year 1574, so for sure some time travel will be involved. On the cover I see the strong Jerommeke looking like a Spaniard who is just preparing a typical pot of green hutspot. I am curious about the recipe, because normally the color is orange. Suske and Wiske are with the underdog, the people of Leiden, who for sure will end up victorious. For sure it will be a classical story.

If you are also curious you will need to be patient. In august the new album will be released, although you can already pre-order it at the october 3rd association.
Coin fail

The design I made for the commemorative coin resulted in a big fail. The fact that I had really though about the design did not help a bit.

In my design all the European countries were united into one big arrow. The arrow was constructed out of various smaller parts. Each little part represents one of the European countries. The side (width) of every part is calculated using the number of inhabitants of a country. The height is dependent of the value of the countries original coin from before the euro, and the starting point is related to the year the country introduced the euro.

All my calculus and drawing efforts have been in vain. To bad. If you want you can still vote for one of the selected coin designs.

Dromen
Dromen zijn een van de meest persoonlijke gebeurtenissen die je je maar kunt voorstellen. Het is een film die je zelf maakt en die je toch kan verbazen. Het enige nadeel is dat je vaak niet voldoende bij kennis bent om de droom te kunnen onthouden en zodoende te kunnen ontcijferen wat je onderbewustzijn je probeert te vertellen.

In mijn geval wordt mijn interesse in mijn eigen dromen steeds weer opgewekt als ik wakker wordt met een droom nog vers in mijn geheugen. Dit gebeurt maar af en toe, één keer in de paar maanden, en in deze gevallen schrijf ik de droom snel op een papiertje naast mijn bed, voordat ik de droom vergeet. Als ik veel later het papiertje weer bekijk en mijn dromen nalees komt de herinnering soms weer deels terug.

Een aantal van deze dromen vind je nu hier.
- Ik ben een chirurg en ben een meisje aan het opereren. Na de operatie blijkt dat ik een operatie lampje in het lichaam heb achtergelaten. Oei, nu maar hopen dat niemand het merkt.
- Ik ben in een nieuw type energie centrale. Deze wordt blijkbaar gebruikt door Google om zijn pc’s van energie te voorzien. Het is een heel vreemde zaal, met grote betonnen vloer en grote blauwe paddenstoelen die bijna gratis de energie opwekken.
- Ik ben in een bos met een flinke hoeveelheid grote honden. Een van de honden is van mij en doet alles wat ik zeg. Het zijn een soort van grote lassie honden, maar dan met minder haar
- Ik heb een grote vulkanische steen in mijn handen. In de steen zit een rare gang die door de steen loopt. In deze gang houd zich een soort van vis schuil. Deze vis heeft schubben van groen blauw metaal en achterpootjes als een hond.
- Ik droom over een nieuw soort van geloof en we voeden onze zoon hiermee op.
- Een hele oude droom, van toen ik nog een klein ventje was: Ik ben een chirurg en ben flink aan het zagen. Ik zaag een flink stuk van de schedel van mijn patiënt, en eenmaal afgezaagd komt er een grote zwarte geest, met een slecht humeur, uit de schedel op mij af. Direct wakker, badend in het zweet en niet meer geslapen. (dit is de enige droom die ik me herinner zonder de noodzaak hem op te schrijven)
Wat mijn onderbewustzijn me probeert te vertellen is me niet echt duidelijk, maar wie weet valt op een dag opeens het muntje.
